AHIA Services
Survivor, Caregiver and Family Support
Organize regular meetings, presentations, and events to provide information and support for survivors of traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury and their caregivers/family members.
Advocate for the support needed for individuals of brain injuries and their families.
Distribute informational pamphlets and brochures.
Assemble complete listing of local brain-injury rehabilitation facilities and other resources.
Visit survivors and family members in hospitals or at home to provide information and support.
Prevention
Promote campaigns and communications to increase public awareness for prevention and safety to reduce the occurrence of brain injuries.
Develop local activities relating to brain injury prevention.
Participate in community health fairs and community outreach to increase people’s knowledge about brain injuries.
Public Awareness
Publish and distribute brochures and informational pamphlets.
Coordinate speaker’s bureau for community groups, schools, and businesses.
Participate in interviews and provide information to local media.
Advocacy
Advocate for recognition of the challenges and unique needs of individuals who have sustained traumatic and non-traumatic (acquired) brain injury.
Keep members and others aware of legislative matters of concern to the brain injured population.
Organize and fund social and recreational activities, including interactive field trips and social events.
Encourage survivor-directed meetings, speakers, and community outings.
Grants
Alamo Head Injury Association has a program that can provide funding to qualified survivors of a brain injury. Funding for needs such as certain medical, rehabilitation, home modification, accessibility equipment, educational, and interactive events will be considered. Applications are for the limited use by individuals who have survived a moderate to severe brain injury to make a specific request for qualified goods or services.
AHIA often works closely with other non-profit organizations to leverage overall funding and financial support to help individuals.
